Susan Halstead is an experienced optician, practice owner, and healthcare leader with a long-standing commitment to clinical excellence and community-focused eye care. She began her career with FVCC in 1993 as an Optician and purchased the practice in 1997, where she continues to serve today as Owner and Practice Manager, also working as a backup Optician.
Over the years, she has been deeply involved in all aspects of optical care and practice operations, including frame selection and vendor relations, introducing new product lines each quarter, developing marketing campaigns, leading community outreach for non-profit organizations, running team meetings, and recruiting and mentoring staff. Her experience spans a wide range of clinical and operational environments, including schools, hospitals, nursing homes, private businesses, and installation supervision, as well as training and design within opticianry.
In 2014, she led a major renovation of the practice and helped integrate advanced diagnostic technologies, including corneal topography, OCT, and OPTOS imaging systems. In 2015, she expanded services to include myopia control for children in response to the growing myopia epidemic, with all practicing doctors becoming Orthokeratology certified. In 2020, she celebrated FVCC’s 100-year anniversary as its third owner, marking a major milestone in the practice’s legacy. Today, she continues to lead FVCC as a boutique, medically focused dispensary, proud of its growth, innovation, and ongoing commitment to delivering high-quality eye care and treatment to the community.
